The next 'Highland Food Market'  takes place in the Eastgate in Inverness on Saturday the 18th September 2010.

The Highland Food Market is a producer led initiative aiming to help small producers access the general public offering their produce. Produce available at the first market will include:

About to complete its first year, the Highland food market offers a wide range of locally sourced produce from 9.00 a.m to around 2.00 p.m, in the Eastgate in Inverness on the 3rd Saturday of each month.

The market hosts an abundance of mouth-wateringly enticing comestibles to tempt the most discerning palates.

Regular produce on offer includes an immense variety of locally grown vegetables and fruits, hill-fed lamb, rare breed pork and free range eggs. Among fare not usually found in shops is old-fashioned free-range chicken, salmon - both fresh and smoked, seafood (prawns, crabs, langoustines), and locally produced beef and venison jerky.

Bakeries are well represented with a wide range of craftsman-made breads and cakes whilst exquisite confectionery and even beef and venison jerky made in the Highlands is to be found.

The ethos of the market is a policy of only the producer's own goods are to be offered for sale, guaranteeing absolute freshness and outstanding quality whilst food miles are kept to a minimum. All vendors at the market are passionate about their wares and, whether from a cooking or production perspective, a lot can be learned by talking to them.

The market was originally born as the result of several enthusiastic farmers and crofters getting together to fill a perceived need for an easily accessed local food market, capable of offering exceptional quality and all the ‘shopping basics' on one site without having to visit a supermarket.

Visiting the market couldn't be easier as parking facilities are excellent due to the proximity of the Tesco car parks.
